Welcome to the Department of Bioinformatics and Biosciences!
In recent years, biological data has been generated at unprecedented rates. Bioinformatics is a fast-growing and relatively new field, which focuses on the use of statistical and computational techniques to analyze biological data. Our bioinformatics curriculum is designed to meet the current and future challenges in this area. It is a well-thought blend of courses related to the disciplines of biological sciences, computer sciences and mathematics. Understanding the requirements of the advanced era, the program focuses not only on the recent trends in biological sciences and related research but also pays equal attention to the upcoming advances in database, programming and algorithms. Our biosciences program is an interdisciplinary approach that executes cutting edge study in a wide range of areas including biochemistry, bioinformatics, genetics, genomics, biotechnology, microbiology and environmental sciences.
The department promotes excellence in interdisciplinary biological research by encouraging independent and original work and training. Furthermore, to enhance the understanding of concepts, and to have a hands-on experience, several courses are supported by wet lab and research based assignments. To accomplish this, the department has a well-equipped wet lab facility with state-of-the-art equipment.
Keeping in view the current transition of biosciences, the department offers both undergraduate and graduate programs in Bioinformatics and Biosciences, with the focus to produce professionals capable of dealing with biological problems using novel approaches.
