COURSE OBJECTIVES

Main objective of the course is to ensure the quality of medicinal plant crude products by using chemical and microscopical examination techniques. At the end of the lab course, students are able to interpret the morphological and anatomical descriptions of the crude plant in order to clearly identify and apply it.

COURSE LEARNING OUTCOMES (CLO)

CLO: 1. To comprehend morphological and anatomical descriptions of the crude plant in order to clearly identify it (C2).
CLO: 2. To perform skillfully laboratory experiments related to identification of crude drug using chemical and microscopical examination techniques. (P3).
CLO: 3. To analyze given crude drug powder using fundamental knowledge regarding morphology of plant and examination techniques (C4).

COURSE CONTENTS

  1. NOTE: Practicals of the subject shall be designed from time to time on the basis of the above-mentioned theoretical topics and availability of the facilities e.g. Introduction of the entire and broken parts of the plant drugs (Macro and organoleptic characters) and Microscopic examination of powders and sections of plant drugs. (Note: A minimum of 10 practicals will be conducted). A Study Tour will be an integral part of the syllabus and will be arranged at the end of the session for collection of medicinal plants from the country
