What is CUST?

Capital University of Science & Technology is established by a federal charter and vested with the authority to award degrees at various levels in all disciplines. It started functioning in 1998 as Islamabad Campus of Mohammad Ali Jinnah University (MAJU) Karachi and achieved its recognition in the country and abroad by maintaining excellent academic standards. In recognition to its academic strength, infrastructure and financial viability, the President of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, on 28th Sep. 2015, gave assent to a bill converting it into a law, passed by the Parliament of Pakistan referred to as ‘Capital University of Science and Technology Act’ which transformed MAJU, Islamabad Campus into Capital University of Science and Technology (CUST). As per CUST Act, it is a comprehensive Institution which can have faculties including, but not limited to, Engineering, Medicines, Natural Sciences, Management, Computing, Humanities and Arts.
Currently, CUST has three Faculties: Faculty of Engineering; Faculty of Computing and Faculty of Management and Social Sciences.
Faculty of Engineering has three Departments: Electrical Engineering; Mechanical Engineering and Civil Engineering. Faculty of Computing has Department of Computer Sciences, Department of Bioinformatics & Biosciences and Department of Mathematics. In the Faculty of Management and Social Sciences, we have Department of Management, Department of Finance and Economics.
To ensure the acceptability of our graduates in local as well as in foreign institutions, the University has adopted a widely accepted semester system and offers BS, MS and PhD degrees in compliance to the international norms and standards. Further, our academic programs are accredited by the respective accreditation bodies of the country.

The University of Derby has its origins in various educational institutions across Derbyshire, dating back to 1851. We gained university status in 1992 and celebrated 20 years in 2012.

Genesis

The Punjab Group of Colleges has been serving the community with quality education since 1985. Punjab College of Commerce was the first institution established by the Group at Lahore. The Group is continuing to expand its horizons by establishing branches in various cities of Punjab. Under the umbrella of the Punjab Group of Colleges, Punjab College of Business Administration (PCBA) and Punjab Institute of Computer Sciences (PICS) have emerged as highly specialized business and computer science institutions. Punjab Law Colleges, Punjab Colleges of Information Technology and Punjab Colleges of Sciences are some more links to this rapidly expanding chain of colleges.
Besides the colleges all over the country, the group also established three Universities, the University of the Central Punjab, Lahore and Mohammad Ali Jinnah University, Karachi through provincial Charters. Now the third one has been established at Islamabad with the name of Capital University of Science and Technology (CUST) which is a great contribution of Punjab Group in the higher education sector.
Prior to promulgation of the Act, CUST was operating as Islamabad campus of Mohammad Ali Jinnah University, Karachi Since 1998 and offering degrees through Departments of Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Computer Science, Bioinformatics, Mathematics and Management and Social Sciences. All programs are duly accredited by the Higher Education Commission and Pakistan Engineering Council. The University believes in research and publications, and its professionally trained and devoted faculty has made tremendous contribution to the advancement of knowledge in the higher education. The University has excellent infrastructure, modern class rooms facilities and well equipped engineering and IT labs It is ranked amongst W-4 category of Universities by the Higher Commission of Pakistan (HEC). We are confident that the CUST will also continue to strive hard for the promotion of higher learning with more enthusiasm.
CUST is authorized by the Federal Government through an Act of Parliament to award degrees at all levels, from Bachelor to Doctorate, in all disciplines. It has three focal points in its planning. The first of course is the range of programs. The University is constantly updating its curriculum to ensure that it is always in-line with the demands of the time. The programs are tailored not only for the popular market but also for the real need of our country’s economic and manpower development.

The second focal point is training. In addition to pure academic programs, the University runs training programs, seminars and workshops for it believes in contributing towards the development of professional manpower, which enriches the society as a whole.
Finally, the third focal point deals with the University endeavors in Research. The University is deeply conscious of the fact that research and development are the main tools which the countries use to transform their developing economies into developed nations. The University is investing heavily in facilities, technology and faculty development to promote research in a meaningful and a purposeful manner.

Recognition

Capital University of Science & Technology, Islamabad Campus, is a chartered university authorized to award degrees at all levels and in all disciplines. All degree programs offered at CUST are recognized by the Higher Education Commission of Pakistan (HEC) while its undergraduate Engineering degrees are accredited by the Pakistan Engineering Council (PEC).
