COURSE OBJECTIVES

This course is an introduction to managerial ethics. Some of the questions that are examined are these: What are the grounds for moral obligations like keeping promises or obeying the law? Is there a place for moral values in a world of facts? How is human nature related to morality? How do we reason about what to do? Can reason determine how we ought to live? What are moral judgments? Is there an ultimate moral principle? Are there universal goods? What constitutes a morally worthwhile life? Can morality itself be challenged? Should manager be equipped with ethical values? What contribution to organization can make by ethical managers? It will also enable students to recognize important ethical issues that arise in various business contexts and management practice. Class discussion, lectures, assignments, and case studies will develop critical thinking skills in students, which is required for the successful practice of management within the framework of societal values.
