Overview

The Final Year Project (FYP) is a two-semester for final-year undergraduate students of BS (CS), BS (SE), BS (AI), and related computing programs at MAJU. It offers students the opportunity to demonstrate applied knowledge and problem-solving through real-world systems or research projects.

Eligibility Criteria

To register for FYP-I, students must meet the following:

  • Completed all core prerequisite courses as per the scheme of study
  • Minimum CGPA of 2.0
  • Not on Academic Warning
  • It must be in 7th semester
  • Earned credit hours >= greater than or equal to 95.
  • Registered in a group of 2–3 students
  • Project must be supervised by a Lecturer or above

GUIDELINES AND Policies

FYP Guidelines are being revised for Fall-2024 Semester. Please go through the guidelines thoroughly and contact FYP Managing Committee in case of any query.

FYP – I

For Students

All FYP - I groups are required to clearly mention the deliverables for FYP - I and II in their project proposals.

All FYP - I students are required to submit the proposal to their respective supervisors physically or via email within the announced date.

All FYP - I group members are required to attend the Proposal Defense which will be held through video link.

All groups are required to have weekly meetings with supervisors physically or through video link or voice call and must submit the meeting minutes to the committee.

All groups are required to constantly work on their project as at least 40% of the project needs to be completed by FYP - I Final Defense.

If you are developing an application like web/mobile or industrial, it should be based on innovative ideas, not just a simple CRUD application.

Projects that involve research work are allowed. Please note, research work is not a requirement for FYP.

The project should have wide enough scope, to justify a yearlong effort and 6 credit hours. Please make your proposal in good enough detail to estimate a yearlong effort.

If you are proposing some product, it must be a realistic and applicable idea.

It must not be a repeated project. A repeated project is one that was already done.

If you want to do extension work on a previous project, it must be clearly referred to in the proposal what they did and what you have planned to do to extend that work.

Project/proposal should not violate rules for students and faculty (given on FYP website).

For Supervisor

Supervisor is responsible to make sure that the formatting of the proposal document is correct and can be asked the final version of the proposal to FYP Managing Committee at following email address: fypcs.committee@maju.edu.pk

The supervisor is required to make sure that the project proposal has deliverables for FYP - I and II mentioned clearly.

The supervisor is responsible for conducting monthly (once a month’s) meetings with the FYP group physically or via video link or voice call and keep record of each meeting in this google sheet and student must submit it to committee.

The supervisor is responsible for making sure that at least 40% of the work must be completed before FYP - I Final Defense.

In case of any irresponsible behavior from the FYP group, the supervisor is advised to inform the FYP Managing Committee immediately

FYP – II

For Students

All FYP - II groups are required to have biweekly (once every two weeks) meetings with their respective supervisors via video link or voice call.

All FYP - II groups are required to submit a biweekly Project Progress Report (template is attached) via email to FYP Managing Committee with your supervisor in cc at following email address: fypcs.committee@maju.edu.pk.

All FYP - II groups need to keep working on their projects constantly as 80% of the work must be completed before FYP - II Final Defense.

For Supervisor:

The supervisor is responsible for conducting monthly (once a month’s) meetings with the FYP group via video link or voice call and keeping a record of each meeting in this google sheet.

The supervisor is responsible for making sure that at least 80% of the work must be completed before FYP - II Final Defense.

In case of any irresponsible behavior from the FYP group, the supervisor is advised to inform FYP Managing Committee immediately.

Penalties

Students are required to respect all due dates. In case of any violation the following penalties will be given to students:

Individual not attending Presentation Zero marks will be awarded to the individual for that milestone.
Late submission of Spiral Binding Up to one grade reduction
Late submission of Final Book Binding Up to one grade reduction
Plagiarism: Plagiarism in any part(s) of project will result in “F” in the FYP

Policies

The Final Year Project (FYP) policy outlines the roles and responsibilities of students and supervisors to ensure a structured and successful completion of the project. The policy applies to FYP-I and FYP-II for both students and supervisors, aiming to provide clear guidelines and establish a framework for effective project management.

FYP-I Policy:

For Students:
  • Each FYP-I group must clearly define the deliverables for both FYP-I and FYP-II in their project proposal.
  • Proposals must be submitted to the respective supervisor, either physically or via email, by the announced submission deadline.
  • Attendance at the Proposal Defense is mandatory for all group members, which will be conducted via video link.
  • Groups must hold weekly meetings with their supervisor, either in person or via video link/voice call, and submit meeting minutes to the FYP Managing Committee.
  • Groups must work consistently on their projects, ensuring that at least 40% of the project is completed by the FYP-I Final Defense.
For Supervisors:
  • Supervisors must ensure the project proposal follows the correct format and is submitted to the FYP Managing Committee for final review.
  • They must verify that the proposal includes clear deliverables for FYP-I and FYP-II.
  • Supervisors must ensure that at least 40% of the project work is completed before the FYP-I Final Defense.
